#ZerpcorpPianosBarcelona learns how to play the piano
Welcome to our blog, where you could find exclusive content for music and piano fans. Today, we will talk about how to learn to play the piano.
The piano and the sheet music
The piano is one of the most difficult and complex instruments that exist, that is why musicians feel great satisfaction. For this reason, an instrument like the piano needs time and dedication.
Sheet music can also seem difficult, we could even compare it to learning a new language. In these scores, the notes that we must play to interpret a piece are detailed as well as its elements (the staff, the clefs, the notes, ...)
Sheet music step by step
There are different basic elements important to know.
The staff
It is the structure formed by five lines and four spaces between them. They are used to position the notes and their position determines the pitch of each note.
In piano sheet music the staves are divided in pairs since the piano is played with both hands. The top pentagram corresponds to the right hand and the bottom one for the left hand.

The clef
The clef is placed at the beginning of the score. There are two basic keys (although there are more)
-Two key: which usually corresponds to the right hand
-F key: which usually responds to the left hand

The key signature
There are # (sharp) or b (flat) in the score that correspond to the black keys of the piano. The sharp means that the note goes up half a tone and the flat, that it goes down half a tone. If this key signature is placed at the beginning of the score, it means that that note will be a higher or lower tone in the whole musical piece but there are additional sharps or flats that alter a single note in particular, these will be placed next to the note they alter.
Musical notes
Musical notes indicate the pitch of the note but also its duration.
-Redondas: It is the largest note and lasts a whole measure. It is identified as a circle without any stick.
-White: This note lasts half a measure. The white one is like the round one but has a stick up.
-Blacks: Blacks last a short bar. It is like the white one but completely black.
-Eighth notes: Eighth notes last one eighth of a bar. They are the same as quarter notes but with a line that connects them to other notes.
-16th notes
-Silences: Sixteenth notes last a quarter of a beat. They are the same as black but have two lines to one side.
